The Infrared Look

Do you like the look of infrared photography?
Thanks to Kevin, Karen, and Patti for inspiring me to experiment with the infrared look. There is a beautiful display of infrared photography at this website http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/01/11/40-incredible-near-infrared-photos/. I use the word “Look” in the title because the photos shown below were taken with my normal digital cameras, and digital cameras have filters in place to screen out infrared light. These photos were edited in Photoshop CS2 to simulate the infrared look in monotone. If you are interested in doing this, and are familiar with Photoshop, here is a link published by Ken Rockwell showing how http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/ps.htm#ir. I re-edited the 1st photo below to add faux infrared color. Only some photos lend themselves to the infrared look so choose carefully. In infrared green turns to white so make this work for you.

I photographed Kristi and Kyles beautiful wedding yesterday and haven’t processed their photos yet, but thought it approriate to use one of their engagement photos to an infrared edit. I think it looks fantastic!

Here’s a stark monotone of groomsmen and their shad0ws from a Anita and Barry’s wedding last year that looks super with an infrared edit.
